Every technical system provides at least one useful function. A problem-solving tool called Substance-Field Analysis – which is a TRIZ tool – uses the concepts of function and interaction to identify and describe the evolutionary changes of a system, in order to transfer successful system transformations among diff erent technical domains. This is, in fact, a knowledge-based tool for problem-solving. Paradoxically, no knowledge management approach seems to be linked to this tool. Consequently, this work proposes a function-oriented ontology tool, which combines the advantages of ontologies with the Substance-Field Analysis approach in order to guide creative eff ort while solving inventive problems also called innovation problems.

Evolution of Information during Problem Solving in Inventive Design
Inventive design implies solving problems for which no known typical solution does exist. Designing a new system means building a representation of a concept that could be recognised and validated as a solution. Which knowledge is useful to represent a specific problem? What is the nature of this useful knowledge? Which amount of knowledge is required to solve a problem? What is an adequate way...
متن کاملA Heuristic TRIZ Problem Solving Approach based on Semantic Relatedness and Ontology Reasoning
The theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) was developed to solve inventive problems in different industrial fields. In recent decades, modern innovation theories and methods proposed several different knowledge sources, whose use requires extensive knowledge about different engineering domains. In order to facilitate the use of the TRIZ knowledge sources, this paper explores a heuristic TR...
متن کاملA Heuristic Method of Using the Pointers to Physical Effects in Su-Field Analysis
While TRIZ is increasingly developing both in research and education, users always encounter difficulties in their attempts to practice it, especially for one of the most complicated inventive problem solving tools, the Su-Field analysis, which is used to analyze and improve the efficiency of a technical system. Generally, the process of using a Su-Field model to solve a specific inventive prob...
متن کاملRedesign Services using Inventive Principles: A Case Study
Systematic redesign services could help to produce new service innovation. The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) with its tools such as the 40 inventive principles and matrix of contradiction developed by Genrich Altshuller and his colleagues are important tools to generate new ideas and solutions for problem solving. Although TRIZ was developed for technical problems, the 40 inventive...
متن کاملA TRIZ Tool for Engineering Education
A TRIZ design tool is developed to enhance the quality of student design projects and to attract students’ interest in the aerospace engineering program. TRIZ is the acronym for the phrase "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving" in Russian. The TRIZ design tool contains the contradiction matrix and inventive principles with extensive examples of aerospace innovations. The TRIZ inventive principle...
